Manicured emerald hills roll into blue skies at Summit County's seven golf courses. This is the place legends are made of, providing awe-inspiring views and drives that soar farther and straighter, thanks to the thin air. Then again, there may be a downside to High Country golfing: A few pesky foxes live nearby, particularly at the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks in Silverthorne, who like to snatch golf balls on greens and take them to their dens. But catching a glimpse of a fox, deer, elk, moose, osprey or eagle is part of the allure. Keystone Ranch Golf Course's open meadow design, complete with alpine lakes, sagebrush and native grasses, transport golfers to a world where they feel as though they're away from everything - except, perhaps, that nagging voice in their heads counting strokes. The River Course at Keystone delivers breathtaking views of the Gore Range and Continental Divide, dramatic elevation changes and challenging terrain on the brim of the Snake River and wetlands. Raven Golf Club winds through lodgepole pines, aspen groves and clear creeks and lakes. The town of Breckenridge is the only city in the world to own a 27-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The courses lie in a mountain valley, and the Elk Course changes elevation the most, of the three. The front nine holes of Copper Creek Golf Club wind through natural alpine terrain, while the back nine cut through the forest and a few remains of a mining town. The course accommodates the novice golfer while still providing challenging greens for more accomplished players.
